Privacy Policy

SwapToys Pty Ltd (“SwapToys”, “we”, “us”) operates the SwapToys mobile app and website (the “Service”), a community platform for swapping children’s toys. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.
1. Information we collect
- Account details — your mobile phone number (used to sign in via one-time code), display name, and suburb.
- Listings — photos of toys you upload and the details you add (title, category, age range, condition, description).
- Location — your approximate location/suburb, used to show toys near you. We store a coarse area, not your precise address.
- Swap activity — swap requests, messages about meetups, and swap history.
- Reports — if you report a listing or user, we record the report and its context for safety and moderation.
- Device & usage data — basic technical information (e.g. device type, app version, crash logs) to keep the app working.
2. How we use your information
- To create and manage your account and authenticate sign-in.
- To publish your listings and show you relevant toys nearby.
- To enable swaps and coordinate meetups between members.
- To keep the community safe (moderation, abuse prevention, responding to reports).
- To improve the Service and fix problems.
- To produce aggregated, de-identified statistics (e.g. total swaps) — these do not identify you.
3. Photo processing
When you list a toy, the photo is processed by a third-party cloud service to suggest a title, category, and other details. These are suggestions only — you can edit or remove them before posting. Photos are not used to identify individuals and are not retained by that service after processing.
4. How we share information
- With other members: your display name, suburb, listings, and swap requests are visible to other signed-in members so swaps can happen. Your phone number is never shown publicly.
- Service providers: we use Google Firebase (authentication, database, storage, notifications) and Google Cloud (image analysis) to run the Service. They process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms.
- Legal: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our members.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Data storage and security
Your data is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure (Australia / Google Cloud regions where available). We use access controls and security rules to limit who can read your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access.
6. Children’s privacy
SwapToys is intended for parents and carers aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Your rights and choices
- Access or correct your profile information in the app at any time.
- Delete your listings, or request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Control app permissions (camera, photos, location, notifications) in your device settings.
- Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.

8. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it for legal or safety reasons.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and change the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will be communicated in the app.
